Dec 2021 - Blacksmithing

During a slow December in my penultimate year of University, I decided I would sate my curiousity of the artistic craft of Blacksmithing. Found a multi-day course in my local city, and crafted 3 unique pieces. Got to learn many different skills regarding how to move metal around and how to properly treat it during the smithing and after.

  • S-Hook

    S for Simple

One of the most basic starting blacksmithing pieces, the humble S-Hook. Got to learn about the basics of moving metal: Bending, Drawing, Twisting.

  • Candle Holder

    Candle Cyclone

Second piece made during blacksmithing class. A cyclone looking candle holder. This simple piece required us to move the metal into a very tight spiral before stamping the center outwards.

  • Ammonite

    Ammonite

One of the last pieces I made during my blacksmithing crash course. An ammonite Shell. By utilising all the skills learned up until then to create the final piece. Required us to drawing the steel into a sharp point, then evenly twist the full length, and finally bending into a tight spiral.
